Birds and Trails at New Hampshire Audubon’s McLane Center

Hello!! Just yesterday I signed my daughter up for summer camp at NH Audubon.  This will be her third year attending and she absolutely loves it! During a class field trip to the McLane Center in Concord, we discovered the many wonderful activities the NH Audubon offers.  In addition to day camps, birthday parties (which we did and it was wonderful!!), and events, the Center is home to some large birds and 3 walking trails.  It’s a great place to visit if you have 30 minutes or a few hours.

A few months ago, during one of those mornings when I felt like I might go crazy if we didn’t get out of the house right this second (do you ever have those?), we took a trip over to the McLane Center.  First, we visited the birds (all of the birds are rescued and/or rehabbing – check out their site for more information on the work NH Audubon does!) and said hello to the owls.

We then watched the Bald Eagle for a while.

After looking at the birds (there were 5 during this trip), we ventured off into the woods to explore the trails.   We took the Great Turkey Pond trail, and had a lovely walk through the woods! We walked by (and explored) a giant tree house,

and took in some pretty views of Great Turkey Pond.

This was an easy walk, perfect for little legs, and it was shady for most of the walk, which helped keep us nice and cool!  I hope your family has as much fun on this adventure as we did!
