Indoor fun at the SEE Science Center

It was snowing this morning…actual accumulating snow.  Our yard, which had just recently melted (as in yesterday), was white again… ahhhhhh!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love the winter and snow, but once April rolls around, I’m ready for some sun and spring weather.  Anyway, waking to snow made me think about some indoor adventures that my family has loved.  One of our favorites is the SEE Science Center in Manchester.  We first discovered it on a (different) snowy day when I was looking for something to get us out of the house.  I checked out our library’s website and saw that they have passes for various museums around the state; I started googling the options and decided that the SEE Science Center looked like fun.  So, we hopped in the car, stopped at the library to pick up a pass (yay for free admission!!), and off to Manchester we went. Edited 4/28 – We made another trip here, so I’ve updated some of the pictures and added a little more information!

The museum is 2 floors with many different hands-on exhibits for the kiddos (and parents!).  My daughter’s favorite is an exhibit that demonstrates pulleys; you sit on a seat and can pull yourself up with a rope.  You can also have someone pull you up; my daughter thought it was so cool that she could pull her brother and me up (I was wearing her brother in my favorite Tula!)!

There is also a table where you can make huge bubbles in different shapes.  My kids love bubbles, so this was a huge hit!

We also had lots of fun seeing how an air stream could hold up a ball.  We experimented with different balls and had a good conversation about why the balls stayed at different heights.

It’s always a good time watching pennies swirl down a “drain!”

For the younger kids, there is a “dinosaur dig” and a play kitchen that keeps them very busy!

Finally, on the bottom floor, there is a huge LEGO display depicting the Manchester Millyard as it was around 1900; the details and scope of the display are amazing.

There also are some LEGOs and a building area for budding architects to sit and build.

While these are some of our favorite exhibits, there are many, many, many, more for your family to explore!! My daughter is constantly asking when we can go back to the “SEE Museum” (as she calls it), so it is clearly an adventure my family loves!! Just as a side note, there are very few parking spots in their lot, so we always end up parking on the street in front of it, where you do have to pay for parking. Click here for tips on parking at the Center.

I hope you enjoy this adventure as much as my family did!
